About Me

Shannon Craig, RN, BSN is a Registered Nurse in Corpus Christi, Texas. She gained her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and is currently pursuing her Master's Degree of Nursing from Saint Joseph's College of Maine. She specializes in intensive care and emergency nursing.

Her interest in health education is derived from her own experiences as a patient. She realized that poor education and management of health conditions could place those with illness at a greater risk for a decreased quality of life and limited functional ability.

It is her hope that this website will provide the tools necessary to inspire those with congestive heart failure to be proactive in their health and not be limited by a diagnosis.

History of project

This project was designed in partial fulfillment of the requirements for Saint Joseph College of Maine's "Nursing Informatics" course. Students were asked to create an informative website for a population with similar conditions. The topic of Congestive Heart Failure was chosen for this project due to professional experience in South Texas where a large population of my patients, like many in our country, were succumbing to the diagnosis. Years of unhealthy lifestyle choices (including smoking, poor diet, alcohol abuse, unmanaged hypertension, and noncompliance) as well as congenital and valvular disorders caused many of my patients to develop Congestive Heart Failure.

It is my hope to influence those with CHF to make healthy choices and live a healthy, fulfilling life. I feel that knowledge truly is power, and living with CHF is no exception to this rule. By understanding CHF, managing your own health, and modifying certain lifestyle choices, I believe that you can have a wonderful quality of life without sacrificing it to a disease process.
